Well this is exciting...
At the end of last week I had an email from Carer's Support. Nothing too unusual about that, but this one said they were starting a new project - Carefree Breaks, where exhausted carers could escape their caring responsibilities and apply for offseason breaks, just the carer (and if wanted one other person who ISN'T the one being cared for), for free, at a variety of holiday accommodations (travel, food etc at our own expense), and would I be interested in applying?
Daft question! I fit all the criteria, so applied, and a couple of days later got an email saying I'd been accepted.
Start of this week the Carefree Admin emailed, with a list of the available times and locations, and asked me to give them my choice in descending order...
And now I'm going to interrupt myself and quickly run through the rest of the news. More on the break further down the page!
It's been manic as ever, but we've ploughed on. Kai and I have now watched all 76 eps of Eureka and thoroughly enjoyed it. Next up is House, which Kai fancied re-watching: I found season 1 - 6 box set at one of the charity shops at Broadwalk for £9.99. (Season 6 was covered in sticky fruit juice residue - that was fun to clean off!)
I loved our Yule window lights so much I've decided to have lights up all the time. Found this wonderful site, Not On The High Street, and have already bought strings of orchids, and frangipani, which is currently in the window -
They look absolutely gorgeous when lit, but my camera isn't good enough to manage a decent shot. I'll see if I can get Kai to do it - he's inherited dad Taylor's camera and is learning how to use it.
Everlasting orchid...
Will repot it when this flower branch has finished.
We've invested in the AVG Ultimate anti-everything package - covers all the devices in the household (including our phones) and is about as good as it gets for security. Tried the tune up facility that came with it, which has done an excellent job of cleaning up my hard drive, but I should probably have checked the details more carefully, as it's removed duplicates of things - including a whole load of my music files, and I have those scattered all over the place, so finding them all again for my Winamp playlists is a bit time-consuming! Could have done without that...
We watched the super-blue-blood-moon rise over the roofs: it was very bright and very pretty, but the photos didn't come out very well.
Pauses to sneeze - I've had an absolutely stinking cold this week. On it's way out now but I haven't been able to eat anything since Monday, and sleep went right out the window...
Soundwave gave up the ghost a couple of weeks ago, alas. Rather sad, as I was very fond of him. Kai, bless him, has given me his spare mp3 player, so I can still have music when I manage a lie down.
A couple of random photos of Tyjer being cute...
... and back to the main news.
Two of the locations were a bit difficult for me to get to - one was on the Isle of Wight - but the first two were in Cornwall (I love Cornwall) and I applied for those...
And got my first choice - and on the week that Ken had already booked as annual leave, so he will look after Kai, Tyjer and the house while I'm away!
Here you go...
The Song of the Sea.
I'll wait while you go drool...
I'll be away 23rd Feb til 2nd March - means spending my birthday alone (well, on skype, of course) but for a free holiday? I'll manage. It's a fabulous birthday present!
It's perfect. I bought my coach ticket to Plymouth today: from there it's a local bus ride to Millbrook then local taxi to the Fort. There's a Co-op in Millbrook where I can stock up for the week, and if I need to I should be able to use the taxi service for other shopping (there's no way I can make that hill with this sciatica and the back and hips in pain). But holiday! Alone!! Peace and solitude and no worries for a whole WEEK!
Taking Prowl and aiming to get a lot of writing done - but if I find I don't want to that is absolutely fine.
There will be photos...

OMG, I'm drooling, I'm drooling! How fantastic for you!!
Wow, lovely - and much deserved! What an amazing place it looks. That should inspire you to write!
Damn it! Yet again my comment hasn't come out.
I said - I'm drooling, I'm drooling! How excellent for you!!
Sue - sorry, sometimes your comments go to the spam box and I have to unspam them before they appear. Not sure how to change that but will see if there's a way.
But thanks - really looking forward to it, and if that doesn't inspire me, nowt will!
No worries, I blame Google! But have you changed something in the site since? I haven't got a box at the top now which always took ages to load.
Anyway, here's hoping this comment comes through.
It did. Hopefully the system now recognises you!
