Well silly me. When I heard I'd get the
Crystal Home proofs in two batches, I assumed that meant two
equal batches. But no. The whole thing arrived this morning, less the five spreads that are being redesigned...
It's just as well I rather enjoy this part of the commission: writing captions (20-25 words) for illustrations is fun. That's not to say it's particularly
easy - I have to scan the rest of the text to make sure I don't repeat ourselves, and it's very tempting to get overly fulsome with the prose - and it's taken me most of the afternoon and evening to work up to chapter 6 (of 9). Though I did kind of get sidetracked when I had this sudden urge to watch
Trigun again, thinking I could work while it was on - I'd forgotten how wonderfully
good it is and ended up watching the first video (with Kai, who loved it and is looking forwards to the rest. Planning to watch one video per day over this week.
Have to get the DVDs though - the tapes are now worn worryingly thin! Where was I? Oh yes...) 24 captions so far at an average of 22 words each plus 3 bits of additional text at an average of 35 words each. Not too bad. Will be able to finish the rest tomorrow.
On Friday morning, when I came down so early, I discovered (quite by accident while channel hopping to find something to work with/to) that we now have the MTV2 cable channel: Green Day were playing, and I rather liked what I heard, so left the channel on. I'd only ever heard of them via AFF (there's quite a bit of fanfic about them) so was curious. They're good - something like The Clash with a hint of Pogues, wonderfully bouncy songs coupled with deliciously vicious political lyrics. Got to get some!
After Green Day was half an hour of The White Stripes (not my thing) and
then half an hour of Gorillaz! I loved Clint Eastwood (though I still can't work out why the song's called that) and really enjoyed the whole programme (particularly like Dare: never heard it before. Great video to go with it too.)
MTV2 are now having an Ultimate Festival Weekend. So far seen Green Day live, and a half an hour of Marilyn Manson. Hm. Loved the music, the costumes are great, but Manson/Warner as a singer is just boring, a growling monotone. Disappointing. Perhaps he's better studio-recorded...
I found
this by blog-hopping last night and nearly pissed myself laughing. It's
hysterical. It was this post that really got me (posted without permission and with no intent to denigrate or insult anyone hurt by the attacks) - it's just so perfectly
British:
The British spirit is unbreakable.
Just heard the following, which some may say is tasteless, but honestly I think it reflects the British attitude to attempts by silly little people to bring us down...
*Typical of London Transport. No terrorist attacks for ages, then four come along at once!*
To any terrorist out there. Give up. The jokes will just get worse, and life will just go on.
Now I have to type up everything I've done today before I forget what I wrote (can't read my handwriting either today, Carol!)
Sig of the Day: Aw hell, not another crisis! I can't fit any more into my schedule...
